The Making of Cool for the Home in 2011

Ever wonder how or why you suddenly want that bright blue washing machine and dryer instead of old fashioned white? Or how is it you can't get the idea of painting grey walls out of your head, not to mention bringing bright red and orange pillows into your living room?

Peclers Paris (www.peclersparis.com) is in the business of knowing cool before we know it's cool! This global consulting company has been watching and forecasting trends for 40 years! It is creative intelligence that starts with people watching from Paris, to Shanghai, to New York, to London and everywhere in between.  They look for the signs, key values-- knowing when they see it that is the making of a trend!  The clues are everywhere from books, movies, events to the economy, the environment, politics. All of these things influence how we feel as consumers so Peclers Paris wraps it all together in a bow and translates it to what we want to buy and surround ourselves with in our world.

Industries of all kinds then turn to Peclers Paris to make sure what they deliver and how it is packaged strikes a nerve in us, for home design, to the cars we drive.  They know that we're always looking for products of pleasure and hedonism, but sometimes we buy things simply because we need it , while other times it's because it makes us feel good.

They work 18 months to 5 years ahead of us to determine these trends for development.

Here's what is going to be trendy for Spring and Summer of next year - 2011

Peclers Paris has broken it down into four themes:

1- Floreal -

This is all about rediscovering nature, and bringing it into the home. This is less about the green and sustainable living movement and more about looking for a fresh start with a cue from all the elements we’ll find in our gardens. Could be Persian Palaces.

We’ll see it in color a range of greens, aquatic blues, prints and patterns, small patterns on textiles, in linens and bedding and home décor. We'll turn to materials like bamboo, wicker, braiding, soy based paints, woods that are tinted, recycled glass, fresh colors. All the shapes and textures will be linked to leaves and flowers.

2- Solaris -

Bright oranges fiery with reds. A lot of influence with a deeper blue almost South American/Latin American vibe. Very ethnic, festive and flambouyant. A lot of energy and good feeling from the sun.  Think the color of vitamins, mixed with woods in warm browns, exotic woods, teak and bamboo, intense red, yellow and oranges, and a lot of graphic folk art influences.

3-Errances/Meaderings

Life has become so mobile, and we're always running around. This has to do with a casual attitude feeling comfortable – and slowing down. A lot of washed fabrics. It’s casual chic. The influences come from travel. Wayfaring blue tones, khakis and warm neutrals that are swept up by the water or sea sprayed. we'll see this in couches, casual chic elegance. More informal and definitely comfortable.

4-Cheerful

More of a niche market. This is when you don’t have money you want, you play with things, humor and imagination. Cheerful colors with scale ideas, accessories for home in colorful products – inflatable vases, stackable things. Keeping a sense of humor in our home.

How to bring these trend to your home now:

Think small ways, whether its in the kitchen, with accessories.

Paper plates and paper products

Throw blankets

Pillows

Linens for the table –tableware.

Lamp shades

Bring in bamboo and wood products

Paint
