The Dirt on Washers and Dryers – Consumer Reports Ratings
Dirty laundry is a fact of life. So we need to have the best washer and dryer to get us thru it all for our clothing, sheets, and towels. Consumer Reports Magazine has results from its latest tests on a nearly 70 makes and models. Editor Celia Lehrman spells out what will save you money, energy, time and your clothing!
While the price of Washers is down more than 30% right now, Consumer Reports says it’s best to keep that old dryer of yours ( as long as it’s fire safe and properly connected) because the technology has not changed in a decade – so tempting as it is to get a matching dryer with your washer, a new dryer won’t really save you energy. In fact the dryer is the one appliance in the home that is NOT Energy Star rated because of how it operates. Consumer Reports also found some under-performers: The are
LG WM2010C, $600 front-loader moved several inches during testing. Its SpinSense option, which is designed to help reduce or eliminate vibration, kept the machine in place but extracted about 20 percent less water, so the laundry took longer to dry, while the Frigidaire FTW3014K, $500 top-loader with Sound Silencer Plus technology was found to be pretty noisy and only a mediocre performer.
